Safety Measures 2020-2021

The health and safety of our students and staff remains our top priority for the 2020-2021 school year. Parents, please take a moment to review the district’s Plan for Maintaining Safe and Healthy Schools to learn more about the health safety measures we are implementing this year.
Plan for Maintaining Safe and Health Schools 2020-21
Hygiene
- Frequent hand-washing and hand sanitizing will be encouraged
- Hand-washing and hand sanitizer stations will be located throughout the school
- Infrared, touchless water bottle refill stations will be located throughout the school
- Plexiglass partitions will be installed in offices
- Partitions will be installed between sinks in restrooms
Symptom Screening
- All students will receive a no-contact temperature check upon arriving at school
- Any student or staff member who exhibits symptoms will be sent home immediately
- Schools will have an area for isolating symptomatic persons
- Faculty, staff, and students agree that when reporting to school, they do not have a fever above 100.3 and do not have any symptoms of illness
Cleaning and Disinfecting
- Custodians will follow enhanced cleaning and disinfecting procedures throughout the day
- High touch surfaces will be cleaned and disinfected frequently throughout the school
- Disposable paper and plastic will be used at mealtime
- Plexiglass partitions will be installed in lunchroom service lines, and nutrition staff will plate all food items; no self-service options will be available
- Self-cleaning Nanoseptic wraps and covers for high touch surfaces such as door handles and counters
- HVAC ionization units that will purify a buildings’s air by reducing the pathogens and particles that circulate via air systems
Social Distancing
- Classrooms will be structured to facilitate 6 feet of social distancing and reduce the number of students and staff in any one space
- The number of adults in each building will be limited by restricting non-essential visitor and volunteer access
- Students in Pre-K — 2nd grades will be served breakfast and lunch in their classrooms
- 3rd graders will eat in cafeteria with social distancing
Transportation
- Parents are asked to transport their student to and from school in both morning and afternoon
- Students will be required to wear a mask on the bus
- Social distancing will be practiced by limiting the number of students on each bus
- Buses will be cleaned and disinfected between routes
Masks and Face Coverings
- Face masks will be provided to all staff
- All staff will wear masks while in the school buildings
- Students are strongly encouraged to bring and wear masks in the school buildings
- Students will be required to wear a mask on the bus
- Face coverings will be provided to GCPS students if needed
