Pathway Overview
The Marketing and Management Pathway prepares students for careers related to business, marketing, and entrepreneurship. In the first course students learn marketing concepts through authentic project-based learning. The second course focuses on entrepreneurial concepts and allows students to develop their own business idea, as well as apply what they are learning in our school-based enterprise, The Tigers Den. Students get “behind the counter” experience in the third course as they assume a managerial perspective in The Tigers Den by applying economic principles in marketing, analyzing operation’s needs, examining channel management and financial alternatives, managing marketing information, pricing products and services, developing product/service planning strategies, promoting products and services, purchasing, and professional sales.
DECA is an integral part of the marketing curriculum and all marketing students are encouraged to join DECA, An Association of Marketing Students. Membership enables students to participate in DECA activities which include but are not limited to: DECA competitions, field trips and receive National DECA and Georgia DECA membership scholarships. Instructor
I am Mrs. Kati Mize, Marketing instructor and Work-Based Learning Coordinator. The 2022-2023 school year is my 16th year teaching, with 12 of those years being at Greene County High School.
Teaching was not in my original career plan, as I majored in Finance at North Georgia College and State University. After earning my BBA in Finance I worked in finance for year where I saw a great need for education about the business world. I made the decision to go back to school full-time and earned my Masters of Arts in Teaching from Georgia College.
Throughout my teaching career, I have taught a variety of business and marketing courses. I enjoy teaching these courses because I feel like it better prepares students for the real world, even if they do not seek a career in business or marketing. Plus, they are just fun subjects to learn about! As Work-Based Learning Coordinator, I love giving students the opportunity to have real-world experiences that will help them in their future careers while also earning class credit.
