• Testing and Assessment falls under the Department of Teaching and Learning. Mr. Strickland oversees all standardized district-wide testing with a special focus on the assessments mandated by the Georgia State Board of Education, local diagnostic assessments, and the Mastery Connect platform.

In education, the term assessment refers to the wide variety of methods or tools that educators use to evaluate and measure what students know and are able to do. The Georgia Student Assessment Program measures student achievement of the state-adopted content standards. Assessment results are used to identify a student’s skill or mastery of standards, provide teachers with feedback about instructional practices, and assist school systems in identifying strengths and weaknesses in both teaching and learning.

Greene County Schools strives to provide each student with an optimal testing environment that is free of distractions, is safe and comfortable, and includes appropriate accommodations as indicated for individual students. Our Department of Teaching and Learning aims to provide teachers, administrators, and other staff with the structures, resources, and professional development needed to create and/or implement state and local assessments.

    Acadience Reading Inventory

Acadience Reading provides one of the best methods of identifying students who are at risk for early reading difficulties, including dyslexia, monitoring those students to determine whether they remain at risk, and identifying students who are not making adequate progress and should be referred for further assessment. This inventory is given at the beginning, middle, and end of the year to all students and provides a progress monitor for students with reading difficulties that is used weekly.
