On Friday, November 6, 2020, Greene County High School Principal James Peek released the following letter to the community announcing the school's decision to cancel its annual Convocation Ceremony due to COVID-19 safety concerns.
Update: Convocation 2020 at GCHS
Out of an abundance of caution, regarding the National Pandemic, Greene County High School has chosen to forego its Convocation Ceremony this year. The arrival of flu season, coupled with an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, indicate that this decision is in the best interest of all students, staff and guests. As an indoor event, expected to accommodate over 100 students, their families, and school staff members, a ceremony such as this risks greater transmission opportunities—even with enforcement of social distancing protocols.
Advisement suggests that extra precautions be taken within the winter months to mitigate the spread of infectious diseases, such as Influenza and the Coronavirus. We will continue to support these Seniors and acknowledge their accomplishments as they work toward their ultimate goal. It is the intent of Greene County High School to celebrate the Class of 2021 in the spring, with traditional Baccalaureate and Commencement Ceremonies.
