A Joint Statement from the Greene County Board of Education and the Lake Oconee Academy Board of Governors

January 20, 2023

Greensboro, Ga. – The Greene County Public School System and Lake Oconee Academy are pleased to announce that they have reached a settlement to resolve a court case concerning a funding dispute. As a part of this settlement, LOA will receive certain funds as reimbursement and will waive claims for additional funding from the District in Fiscal Year 2022 and prior years. LOA will not seek funding for its enrollment above the current limit of 1,051 students. The parties have agreed to the continuation of certain funding practices by the District and changes to others. This settlement is not an admission of liability by any party to the lawsuit, and it represents the compromise and settlement of disputed claims to avoid future litigation costs and to remove the uncertainty of the outcome of the litigation. Greene County has also agreed to rescind its notice of breach of the charter agreement by Lake Oconee Academy.
