GCPS to hold practice school evacuation and family reunification drill on March 29th
Important Announcement for GCPS Families:
On Friday, March 29th, Greene County Primary School will participate in a practice school evacuation and family reunification drill. There is no emergency situation involved. This drill allows the school to practice evacuation and reunification procedures involving students, families, and school district employees, and provides the Greene County School System and emergency responders with an opportunity to evaluate our emergency operations plan and improve our response skills.
The drill will begin at 10:45 a.m., with all GCPS students being transported by bus to the Greene County School System Transportation Department facility located at 1170 Kevin Roberts Way in Greensboro. All parents will be required to pick up their students at the family reunification site at the Transportation Department. Student pickup will begin at 11:30 a.m. Please view the map below for the student pickup car lineup directions.
Anyone picking up students must bring photo identification. School staff will check the ID against a list of individuals approved to sign out each student. Parents, please make sure your contact information is up-to-date in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal prior to March 28th. If a parent or guardian is not the person who will be picking up your student on March 29th, please make sure the list of emergency contacts and individuals approved to sign out your student is up-to-date in Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you do not have a Parent Portal account or need help accessing it, please contact your child’s school for help signing in.
This drill is a joint exercise of the Greene County Board of Education, Greensboro Police Department, Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Greene County Emergency Management Agency, and the Greene County 911 Office. Greene County citizens should expect increased first responder activity on the day of the drill, including a large law enforcement presence, increased traffic, and traffic delays. The event is not open to the public.
We appreciate your patience as the drill may take longer than expected as we practice family reunification for the first time. Your support and cooperation is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions ahead of this drill on March 29th, please contact us at 706-453-7688.
