GCSS schools receive summer upgrades

This summer, three Greene County schools received major upgrades in preparation for the 2019-20 school year. Crews worked hard throughout Georgia's hottest months preparing Greene County Primary School, Carson Middle School, and Greene County High School to welcome their students back on August 1.

The front façade of Greene County High School has been completely renovated. The school sports a beautiful new atrium at its front entrance, which features terrazzo flooring with the school’s logo in the floor and new half glass doors to the gymnasium. The new entrance tower also includes security features that make the atrium function as a security vestibule to limit public access to the building.

Another new entrance, which leads to the college & career academy wing of GCHS on the building’s north side, opens into the Career Center. The Career Center (which is also a beautiful, brand-new space) will function as the hub for college and career activities and for mentor meetings between volunteers and students. The career academy now has fully renovated classrooms and lab spaces for the college & career classes such as Healthcare, Marketing, ROTC, Music, Art, Culinary, Automotive, and Agriculture. (P.S. The welding bays are one of the best parts!)

As Carson Middle School prepared to welcome 4th and 5th grades to its hallways for the first time this school year, the building was upgraded to ensure that the 4th and 5th graders have their own safe, secure wing that will be separate from the rest of the school. New security doors have been installed at the entrance to the 4th-5th grade hallway and will remain closed during the school day and require security badge access for entry. A new separate bus canopy was added for the 4th and 5th graders so these students have their own separate bus drop off area and entrance to the building.

To celebrate all these improvements, CMS also received a signage upgrade out by South Main Street. The sign was modified to match the new sign in front of the high school, with the same stone, stucco, and lettering.

Greene County Primary School also received a facelift as it prepared to welcome grades K-3 on August 1st. It features new countertops in classrooms, renovated bathrooms, and a new fire alarm system.

This new school also received two new signs. The marquee sign at highway 77 has been removed and replaced with a new marquee sign. The existing masonry sign has been pressure washed and has new lettering to reflect the school name change.

Visitors to GCPS also notice the beautiful new concrete just poured in front of the school, as well as the school's new flagpole and some gorgeous landscaping, including some new plants.

Finally, GCPS is sporting a few new walls that have been added to create additional classrooms in both the learning cottage and in the main building. And even more learning space is available in the brand-new classroom modular building that has been placed next to the existing learning cottage and will be connected to it by a covered walkway.

These renovations and upgrades ensure that Greene County’s students will enjoy modern, state-of-the-art educational spaces and resources as they embark on the 2019-20 school year.
